My little Gus Gus has become quite the handful as of late. He never sleeps at night, he just screams. He is teething. He is picky about his solid foods. He wants to be held all the time. He will scream until he is picked up. I am exhausted. On top of that he hates formula.
I don't produce nearly enough milk and so we have been trying to get him to take formula. No luck there. I have tried about 6 different kinds now with no success. My friend suggested a non-cows milk based formula, thinking he may be allergic to the others since he wont drink them or throws them up. I thought that was a good idea and thus tried the two kinds she suggested. Nope that was no good either. He just hates it. This video is actually a very mild response to giving him formula.Typically he screams and cries as well. I don't know what to do because he needs to have that. My measly milk can't be doing him much good and the solid foods are not the best source of nutrition. I have tried powder and pre-mixed, soy based, milk based, hypoallergenic and so on. Anyone have any suggestions? I read somewhere to try to give it while they are sleeping. So I did. He took about to ounces until he woke up realized what I was doing and showed me what he thought of that. Another time he was asleep he wouldn't even let the bottle near him. Its not the bottle either because he drinks the milk I pump just fine from a bottle. He has a sixth sense this one... Argh!

I'm so sorry! that has got to be so frustrating! is he gaining weight fine? Are you sure you aren't making enough milk? Could he just be very efficient? hopefully he's getting enough nutrients from baby food and what milk he is getting.
oh lacey, what a nightmare! geez. i can only hope my milk holds out so i don't have to worry about this.
have you tried talking to the pediatrician? maybe there's an underlying issue?

Drink the herbal tea that helps produce more milk. Maybe not a solution to the formula epidemic...if not, he'll eat anything if he's way, way, way hungry, right? Hopefully he's not THAT stubborn. Try the tea.

I did read that after 6 months, it is really hard to switch to formula. BUT, if he's still gaining weight and eating solids, you're in a good place. C didn't eat much of anything at all when he was cutting his first two teeth, and then about a week later his appetite did come back. He eats about 18-24 ounces a day, which is a lot less than he used to. So if you're still making milk, you could actually still be giving him what he needs.
Pick a formula he hasn't thrown up on and stick with it. Just try offering 2 ounces a time. That way you're not wasting it and maybe he can get used to one taste.
I did try mixing bmilk and formula together and he wouldn't drink that at all; he would drink both separately fine, but not mixed.
I know, so frustrating! But hang in there and just let him eat what he'll it. (Will he drink water?)
