At the RADIO

Or at least that what Brigham keeps calling it. "mom when can we go to the Radio?" "Mom I love the Radio" even though what he means to say is the RODEO.

Seth and I took the kids to the Rodeo for the first time a few weeks ago. The kids were so excited! They wanted to wear their boots and go see some real cowboys and bulls. They were not disappointed
They were getting annoyed when were couldn't find a parking spot because they were so eager to get to see the action. They ran around out front for awhile whilst we waited for it to begin.

When the lights went out to start the show, the excitement was tangible. Briggs was a little afraid of all the noise but he eventually got over it. They loved this big tractor they had highlighted before the rodeo started.

Emily enjoyed herself too. She was soooooo tired. However with all the ruckus she refused to go to sleep.

My love

Abby had to get in on it too.

Once the show started the kids were hooked. They love watching bull riding on TV and they really loved it in person, albeit they were a little scared. But, heck so was I. Its a lot scarier in real life...It felt like those guys were gonna die.
The highlight for the kids were these balloon hats. We had the balloon man make them hats with horses on them. They were obsessed. At one point the kids are allowed out into the arena to chase a sheep with a ribbon on it to win a prize. Surprise surprise, my kids wanted nothing to do with it. Stage fright!

Here is a video of one of the barrel racers. I loved it too. This wasnt the fastest but it was fun to watch. Overall it was a great experience and the kids cannot wait to go back.

Just saying....

I have been trying to be better about recording the funny things that come out of my kids mouths....here are a few from the last couple of weeks.

  •  Abby: "Mom, we got to make applesauce at school! But I didn't really like it because it had apples in it"

  • While sporting her Johnny Appleseed hat, Abby states(all day long)... "Look mom, I am a pot head"

  • Brigham: "Mom I'm the boss"
    "Why"
    "Because I am a boy!"

  • Abby:"Mom you can be Hello Kitty for Halloween if you want to"

  • Brigham. While begging for doughnuts in the afternoon....
    "Brigham we cannot have doughnuts"
    "Why"
"Because the doughnut store is closed"
"We'll we can go there and open the door with our hands!"

  • Abby. On a home work assignment that was fill in the blank Abby wrote ..."twinkle twinkle little star I wish for (fill in the blank) a unicorn that I can ride."

  • Abby. Another assignment read: "I am a peacemaker when...I read books carefully."

  • A discussion between Brigham and I
Briggs: "I want to go to Johnny B's" (it's his favorite restaurant)
    "We can't go there buddy"
"But I want a grilled cheese"
    "I can make you one"
    "No you can't"
    "Why not?"
"Because they call your name when it's done"
"We'll I can call your name when I'm done"
    "No you can't"
    "Why not?"
"Cause you are not a boy!"

  • Abby: "Mom look how slow I can speed walk"

  • Wile driving through a friends neighborhood where there is construction....
Abby: "is this where they live?"
    "Yes"
    "But it is so damaged"

  • Me: "Brigham can you please stop growing up and stay little forever?"
    "No mom"
    "Please Briggs?"
"I already told you three times!"
    "You did?"
"You can still keep me when I'm big!"

  • A discussion overheard between Abby and a friend...
Abby: "are you in CTR 4"
    "huh?"
    "Are you in Primary?"
"I have no idea what you are talking about"
"What church do you go to?"
    "I don't go to church"
    "Why not"
"Because my mom didn't sign me up for that"

Done broke

Last year our desk top died. We have been using our old school lap top since then and it has been on its last legs for a few months. It finally gave up the ghost last week. It won't even go to the operating system. It basically comes up and says "you need a new computer, I'm broken!"

So, now we are down to our iPad until we get a new one. My camera is filled with lots of pictures and videos that will have to wait.

Until then I will have to actually think of things to write, or post nothing at all.

Hopefully it's not tooooooooo long!

Bleeding Mud -2012

Registration Ten

The day finally came for the DIRTY GIRL mud run that I have been looking forward to for months! After some discussion we decided on the team name of Bleeding Mud.  Chandler and Stephanie came with me and we had a blast!  It was Freezing! It was 52 degrees, which in general isn't cold, but considering this past week has been 100 degrees and we were wet, it was Freezing. Once we got going though it wasn't too bad.

We got our numbers, hung out for a bit and then dropped off our gear and waited for start time at 8:15AM    We took some pictures of our clean- pre- run selves.

Then we we were off. There were several obstacles..... some small .....like jumping over hay bales and running through mud ...some medium.... climbing over walls and big blowup mountains....some Big.... such as army crawl mud pits, in the lake rope course and a giant rope ladder mountain thing. IT. WAS. FANTASTIC!!! I loved every minute of it! I cant wait to do it again.

Then we headed to the rinse station and some clean clothes. Of course we had to stop for hot chocolate on the way home. All in all, I had a great time with some great girls!

TCSWW-2012

I have been on the lookout for another 5K to run.  I spotted  a flyer for this race called "Trophy Club Salutes Wounded Warriors," its close to where I live and its for a good cause, so I decided to give it a try. I was a little worried because I haven't been running a whole lot lately. I have been Spinning instead to ease the burden on my back. So I knew it would be hard.

Thankfully, it was A LOT cooler and it rained as well so there were no worries about heat stroke this time around! Seth and the Kids came to support me too.

Ready to cheer for mom
I started off pretty well. However due to the rain the road was really slick so I almost ate it a few times. But I pushed on. Then about mile marker 1, my armband with my phone and headphones  fell off! I was irritated to say the least. I tried to fix it while I was running but unfortunately I had to walk for about 30 seconds to fix it. Even still, it was all messed up so the rest of the run was a little aggravating.
Pre-Race with Abby and Briggs
Then about mile marker 2.5 I could feel my heels rubbing against my shoes. My socks had fallen and it was becoming painful. I had to stop again to fix it. The relief was temporary. But I wasn't going to fix it again. I didn't want anyone else passing me. So after I crossed the Finnish line and looked, my socks were bloody! No wonder it hurt so bad.
Love those faces

It was definitely hard. Its amazing how fast your body forgets how to run! By the time I was done I was sucking wind pretty hard. I felt like "my courage hangy ball"  was whacking the back of my throat. In the end though it turned out well.
RESULTS...
For my age group 25-29 year old Females; I came in 2nd out of 16. I was shocked. . My FINAL time was 28 Minutes 25 Seconds. A four minute improvement over my last 5K. So I was happy. I came in 72nd overall out of 205 who ran. I suspect the rain kept some runners at home, making my odds a lot better. But all I cared about was improving my last time. I think the end mileage was 3.2 miles. Since the finish was a bit past mile marker 3. Not too bad considering.

Emily making a goofy face
Unfortunately the kids were not good for Seth while I was running, AT ALL. So I don't have any pictures of the start or the finish. :(  I am doing a mud run obstacle course this weekend which I am really looking forward to. I am sure it will be a blast!
